Edgehill Reconciliation Programme works closely with one of our partner organisations, Embrace NI in co-ordinating a practical project called 'EMBRACE on the Street.'
This initiative raises awareness of migrant destitution in Northern Ireland and provides practical assistance through the donation of clothing, bedding, toiletries and non-perishable foodstuffs. These items are donated by a variety of Churches and individuals from across the denominations and distributed through specific organisations (for example, the Welcome Organisation, Homeplus, the Red Cross, the Simon Community and St Vincent de Paul) to those on the street and in hostels.
The video below is courtesy of the Welcome Organisation who often work in conjunction with EMBRACE. If you would like any more information on the support that the Welcome Organisation provides to the destitute in Northern Ireland please visit their website at www.homelessbelfast.org.
Appeal
2011 saw an increase in activity from a range of churches and individuals to the ‘EMBRACE on the Street’ collections. The organisations who received donations were extremely grateful and wanted to pass on thanks to anyone who donated items to the project.
With 2012 now upon us, there is still a large demand for donations and therefore for churches to be involved so we would like to appeal to churches or individuals who feel that they could donate any items to the project. There is a particulary high demand for items like coats, trousers, shoes, underwear and sleeping bags throughout the year, as well as a need for basic essentials like towels, toiletries and foodstuffs. If you are interested in donating any items please contact Ashleigh Hunter, co-ordinator of 'EMBRACE on the Street' on 028 9068 6933 or ahunter@edghillcollege.org.
