RUNNING FOR EMBRACE
During this year’s sunny May Bank Holiday, the Edgehill Reconciliation Programme took part in the Deep River Rock Belfast City Marathon in order to raise money for
EMBRACE.
The relay team consisted of the Director of the Reconciliation Programme; Scott Boldt, our two volunteers; Jenna Liechty Martin and Peter Martin, our Administrative Assistant; Ashleigh Hunter and Ruth Watt; a Ministerial student studying at Edgehill College, as well as an EMBRACE committee member. The team finished in 4 hours, 47 minutes and 35 seconds with Ruth crossing the finish line.
The whole team thoroughly enjoyed being part of such an enjoyable day with the other estimated 20,000 participants. The atmosphere was fantastic with different communities across Belfast lining the streets to show their support for the runners. It was also good to see a vast range of charities being represented throughout the day.
Just over £400 has been raised so far which will be donated to EMBRACE’s Emergency Fund.
The Emergency Fund is used to provide vital emergency assistance to destitute migrant workers and people seeking asylum where no other means of support, either statutory or charitable is available. Money raised by this fund has been used in a number of ways. Examples include assisting destitute foreign nationals who have needed to return home urgently, and sending on the belongings of people who have been removed to their own country following detention at the end of their asylum cases. Others have been helped off the streets by the payment of a few nights hostel fees where no other funds were available.
Everyone involved in EMBRACE would like to show their gratitude for any contributions that have been made.
If you would like to make a donation you can send them through the Edgehill Reconciliation Programme at Edgehill Theological College, 9 Lennoxvale, Belfast, BT9 5BY. Cheques can be made payable to ‘EMBRACE’.
