Edgehill Library

The Library at Edgehill College exists primarily to meet the needs of registered Edgehill College students studying for degree or diploma courses offered through St. John’s Nottingham and the Queens University, Belfast.

Situated in leafy South Belfast – with free, on-site car parking – the Library of Edgehill Theological College is also a valuable resource for anyone engaged in Christian ministry or interested in general theological study.

The Library also benefits from having a very close working relationship with the Methodist Historical Society in Ireland, whose Archive (located immediately beside the Library) holds a wealth of historical records and artefacts relating to Irish Methodism.

The library comprises:

  • Over 13,000 volumes plus audio visual resources
  • A broad range of journals such as ‘Scottish Journal of Theology’, ‘Practical Theology’, ‘Epworth Review’, ‘New Testament Studies’ etc
  • Easy-to-use computerized catalogue search facilities
  • A straightforward self-service issue and return system
  • Pleasant air-conditioned study facilities
  • On-site photocopying available at reasonable cost

The Library stockholding is broad-based and benefits from on-going annual expenditure on the most recently published theological books.

Methodist Studies, Systematic Theology, Practical Theology, Reconciliation Studies, Christian Ethics and Northern Irish history are particularly well represented within the collection.

Opening Hours

The Edgehill Library is currently open during term time, Monday – Friday, 9.00 am – 5.00 pm. These hours may be amended during exam periods and outside the main teaching periods. The Library will normally be closed for one or two weeks over Christmas and New Year, for one week at Easter and for a period in July.

Recognising the value of the learning resources on offer, the College is keen to make the Library more accessible to a wider readership.

Anyone can now apply to become a ‘Member’ of the Edgehill Library. Membership gives access to the Library reading room between 9:30 and 4:30pm, Monday to Friday, and entitles members to borrow up to five books for a period of up to four weeks at a time. The fee for membership of the Library is £30 per annum.

Simply download and return the attached Application Form with your fee.

On receipt of this, we will contact you to arrange an appointment for your first visit to the Library. During this first visit, the Librarian will introduce you to the Library facilities, explain how to search for items in the Library catalogue and how to borrow and return books etc.
