TEACHING AND LEARNING TOGETHER
Edgehill College, like other Colleges within the Institute of Theology in Queen's University, opens its doors to people from all traditions who wish to study theology. The "Exploring Theology Together" initiative means that not only the student community but also the teaching staff come from both Protestant and Catholic traditions. It is a step in the journey of understanding and reconciliation.
"Exploring Theology Together" has been made possible because of a relationship of trust established with the Mater Dei Institute in Dublin. Theological staff from the Mater Dei Institute have shared with Edgehill staff in teaching modules on a 50:50 basis. This exploring of theology together has been welcomed by both staff and students, and a new spirit of love and understanding has clearly developed since the venture started in February 2001. Students can benefit from these courses in various ways:
(A) The Bachelor of Theology Degree/The Diploma in Theology:
The modules taught in this course can lead to the award of a BTh degree or a Diploma in Theology by Queen's University. To complete the BTh degree you must first meet the University's entrance requirements, and then undertake eighteen modules during the course of study. It normally takes about five years, working part-time, to complete the whole course. Diploma students must also meet the University's entrance requirements. The Diploma consists of ten modules. It can be completed in three years. Students who are accepted for the degree or diploma will be enrolled as a part-time student of Queen's University.
(B) The Edgehill Certificate Course - with assignment:
For those who wish simply to enjoy the night classes, and undertake some study on their own, the Certificate Course is an attractive option. A certificate will be awarded on the completion of each subject, or "module". To gain the Certificate you must attend the classes in that subject and pass a written assignment of 2,000 words on a topic set by the lecturers. It should be noted that the certificate awarded by Edgehill will not, of itself, offer credit for any other College or University course.
(C) The Edgehill Certificate Course:
Some students have opted to take the classes without sitting university exams or writing an assignment. We are glad that they have chosen to follow the course of lectures and share in discussion both within the class and during the breaks for tea/coffee. We recognise their participation by awarding a College Certificate - download details for the Autumn 2007 course, "Western Christian Spirituality".

How it works:
- Classes meet weekly on Tuesday evenings at 6.00 pm in the College.
- The class for each module lasts for 1.5 hours.
- There's a half-hour tea break at 7.30pm, and the second module is taught from 8.00 pm until 9.30 pm.
- As with our day-time classes each module is taught over the twelve week University Semester.
- In addition there are Tutorial meetings on one Saturday during the Semester to discuss aspects of the course.
